For 30 years, Compression Solutions (CSI) has helped physicians, hospitals, and ambulatory surgery centers support post-operative recovery. CSI’s process is designed to help facilities save time, reduce administrative burden, and enhance the patient experience.

Today, facilities rely on Compression Solutions for a range of recovery solutions, including:

Reflecting on 30 Years of Healthcare Evolution

Jeff Struve has been in medical sales since the early 1990s and with Compression Solutions since 2017. He recently reflected on a few of the biggest challenges he has seen in healthcare over the past three decades.

“We’ve come a long way in 30 years… we’re in a better position today than ever before” – Jeff Struve, Head of Sales

Changing Expectations Around Surgeries

Over the past 30 years, healthcare has shifted from a primarily reactive, hospital-centered model to a more patient-focused, technology-driven, and preventative system.

“Ten years ago, the idea of a total knee replacement being an outpatient surgery was unthinkable,” says Jeff Struve, Head of Sales at Compression Solutions. Now, more than half of orthopedic surgeries are outpatient.

The number of Ambulatory Surgery Centers has also exploded since their inception in 1988, and today, more than 30% of 70+ million procedures performed in the US occur at ASCs.

The Ongoing Opioid Epidemic

Pain management has also undergone dramatic changes since opioids were first introduced in the mid 1990s. Addiction and abuse soon followed until the “Opioid Epidemic” was officially declared a Public Health Emergency by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in 2017.

Today, CSI supports efforts to reduce opioid use in post-operative care by offering pain management devices that assist in opioid-sparing strategies. These include electronic pain pumps which are designed to help manage pain and support a positive patient experience.

Technology: Help or Hindrance?

Healthcare teams have always been stretched thin, and the past three decades have seen huge changes in technologies for paperwork, billing, and patient records.

Then and now, CSI’s services are designed to help nurses, administrators, and surgical staff spend less time chasing paperwork and more time focused on patient care.

“Compression Solutions provides solutions designed to support HIPAA-compliance in billing and documentation,” says Struve. “This includes secure EMR access that helps streamline insurance submissions and reduce delays.”
